MUSIC
The idea for this project was to create a R&B/hip-hop type of composition. I was mostly influenced by the new-age electronic sounds used in R&B and hip-hop. I also created something memorable harmonious and melodies. The style of the project mostly comes from influences of West Coast synthesizers that you see in hip-hop songs from the late 2000s and 90s fuse with the slow tempo that you hear in R&B music. Overall, the project was supposed to relax and suit the listener’s ears with calming repetitive, and memorable melodies that I feel listening to hip-hop and R&B is very important when creating music.
For the rhythm section of this project, I use the Boutique 808. The reason why I chose these drums, in particular, was that they are very defined and well-used in modern-day music today. These drums, give the hip-hop and R&B feeling to the track and also come with a variety of features that I feel that most drums don’t have. For the bass section, I chose the 80s Pluck Bass I liked how this bass sounded, and it was very effective and abstaining when it comes down to what I believe a bass should sound like unlike acoustic bass, which doesn’t last as long. This bass provides a long sustaining sound before ending, which was necessary for the project.
The name of the key for this project is A major, and the keys in the first section are A E C#m Bm D. The reason why I chose this pattern to be the first in the project was that he gives more of a sad, sentimental type of fell to the project and hero has fallen. However, in the second part of the composition, I use more of an uplifting type of pattern to change the mood of the pattern E G# F#m A D. For the melody, I composed a motif melody that repeats itself, but it’s still in the same key as the project it does change on the second part to match the feeling harmony. I wanted the listener to have the emotions of sad and happiness when they listen to this project and I wanted both emotions to be used for this piece
For the audio recording part of this project, I recorded myself singing, trying to harmonize with the core progressions. I also use my vocals as a sample for the quick sampler plug-in part of the project it has my vocals raised to the pitch of C#. I also did two different recordings of me harmonizing to match the progression in each section. I also added a channel EQ to my voice recording. Also added a reverb effect to give it the space sound. The reason why I wanted to sing on the track was to give it that R&B feel to the project.
For the mixing part of this project, I wanted more of the cords to be Heard. Not so much of the melody so it doesn’t overpack the song. I wanted the rhythm section to be defined and to be heard properly so they were mixed to the point where they were not peeking but could be heard by the listener. For my vocals, both audio and sample. I wanted the sample to be like a background effect and vocals to stand out. When I was adding dynamic and time-based effects to each track, I was only targeting certain things that I needed to add. Put dynamics, I added an EQ on the audio recording. I also added a compressor to the drums. For the two time–based effects I added a ChromaVerb on the snare and audio recording. I also added an echo on the audio recording sample to add that effect to it.
